WELCOME TO 8th GRADE
In reading class, students can expect to closely read selections of literature, as well as a variety of informational texts to build knowledge, gain insight, research, build reading stamina, and broaden their vision of the world. Students can joyfully anticipate nightly homework of reading (20 minutes) In writing, not only will students be focusing on the structure of writing, but they will be writing in all content areas. We will begin writing with personal narratives, literary responses, and summaries. It is expected that students maintain an Interactive reading notebook, Writer’s Journal, Social Studies Notebook, and a curiosity to always learn more. Evaluation will be based upon tests, quizzes, literary responses, Socratic seminars, and projects. In Social Studies we will study the Revolutionary War, becoming a nation and skip to World War II and the Modern era. This will be a challenging and wonderful year.
